Description
The Houston Theater District is comprised of 7 arts organizations that perform in four performing arts venues. In Jones Hall, you have the Houston Symphony and the Society for the Performing Arts. Alley Theatre is an eponymous presenter. The Houston Ballet and Houston Grand Opera perform in the Wortham Center. Finally, Broadway Across America, DaCamera and Theatre Under the Stars present in the Hobby Center.
A lot is made about Houston having the second largest number of theater seats outside Broadway, and that we’re one of only five cities in the country with presenting companies in the major performing arts disciplines. I find both to be of little distinction, and feel the real value of the Theater District is in the quality of the performances these organizations present to the City of Houston.
