Obituary
Texans Fan, of Houston, died today at the young age of 2. He was born on Sunday, December 24, 2006 when the Houston Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts for the first time in franchise history. He passed away of disappointment at Reliant Stadium when the Texans lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-24. He is survived by Rockets Fan and his two children Dynamo Fan and Hornfrog Fan and their new grandson Cougar Fan. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Houston Texans New Coach Foundation.
Call me fairweather all you want, but I can’t find any reason to continue as a fan of the Houston Texans. At least not until they prove they are dedicated to playing respectable football week-in, week-out. A lot was made of last week’s victory, but they might as well be 0-3 right now. I blame the coaching. I can’t see how this team, with the talent they seem to possess, can be this lazy, undedicated and inconsistent. Throughout Kubiak’s tenure as head coach, I can point to a number of losses that began AFTER halftime. The fact is other coaches in the league are better at making halftime adjustments than Kubiak. And, when they are able to pull out a win, they follow it up with a half assed showing the next week. I honestly don’t mind the losing. Despite the talent, I still don’t see this team competing for a Super Bowl title. However, what I do want to see, and believe in, is improvement. A sense this team is capable of one day contending for something more than the being the most disappointing and unreliable team in the NFL.
Until they prove that, I have no use for them, and see no reason to continue to set myself for a afternoon let down like I have felt two out of the past three Sundays. I felt like the Texans needed to go at LEAST 4-2 in their division, that included a necessary 2-0 against the Jaguars because I don’t see them sweeping either the Colts or the Titans. I also do not see this team making it through what is now an absolutely BRUTAL schedule in late October and early November.
I felt the Texans were robbed of a decent year by Hurricane Ike last season. This season, I realize they are simply not cut out to do what is necessary to join the ranks of legitimate teams in the NFL. But the season is only 3 weeks old, and I happen to LOVE NFL football. What am I going to do?
Urban Houstonian’s picks for NFL Alternatives
New England Patriots
Yeah, yeah, I know, Belicheat? Sorry, but I can’t not like Mr. Tom Brady. Where some people see arrogance, I see confidence. Oh, and HE’S HOT! They also have one of the best logos in Patriot Elvis.
Finally, and this is me being irrationally Urban Houstonian, they won the 2005 Super Bowl which was hosted by Houston.
Tennessee Titans
This is probably the most reasonable option for any Houston Texans fan looking for a new team to cheer for. On the other hand, you’ll be cheering for an 0-3 team, and they’re still owned by Bud Adams. At least the Patriots did something GOOD in the city of Houston.
New York Giants
I know, I know, NEW YORK?! But check this out, they beat the Dallas Cowboys in the first regular season game in the Death Star.

If Houstonians can’t get behind a team that ruined what was supposed to be one of the greatest nights in Dallas Cowboys history, what can you cheer for? The Giants have also seen the sunny side of the Super Bowl in the last couple of years, so their desire for another ring is something you can depend on and hope for. Plus, now that they are sans Plaxico Burress, the Giants are somewhat likeable. I was going to go with the Philadelphia Eagles, but I have friends that would boil me in hot oil because of the whole Michael Vick thing.
That’s about it. I’ve always had a good fall back with the San Diego Chargers because of my TCU ties.
I’m also going to take a moment to offer up the University of Houston Cougars because they are mounting what looks to be a very special season. However, I can tell you, as a fan of a fellow BCS Buster Wannabe (See above), the road is filled with lot of frustration, stress and disappointment.
Oh wait, but you’re a Houston Texans fan, you’re already used to that sort of thing.

If you begin rooting for the Titans, you are dead to me. Please factor that into your decision. kthxbi
Jeff, not to worry, I HATE the Titans. Bud can go to hell!
the day the oilers left, the nfl died in my heart. i never gave the texans a chance to claim it. i unapologetically bleed orange and highly encourage all other texans to do so as well. hookem.
The Longhorns are great, but they don’t play on Sundays, and they’ll NEVER play in a Super Bowl!
